Access $120 billion in projects through Expo 2020 Dubai

The United Arab Emirates will host the World Expo in Dubai in 2020, the first time the World’s Fair will be held in the region — a significant milestone for the UAE.

Projects worth an estimated $120 billion are expected to get underway leading up to Expo 2020, including the expansion of the local metro line and the development of a new $33 billion airport.

“The UAE is an important export market — it is already Canada’s 18th largest market — and we expect Expo 2020 will allow Canada to further strengthen its commercial presence in the UAE”, says Consul General Emmanuel Kamarianakis.

The last 12 months have already seen many announcements as the city moves forward with major infrastructure and associated developments. When completed, the Dubai Expo site is expected to be the largest World Expo. Beyond 2020, the Expo site will serve as a permanent state-of-the-art exhibition and convention centre.

“The UAE has much to offer Canadian suppliers of goods and services interested in assessing new opportunities,” says Glen McPherson, Senior Trade Commissioner in Dubai. Sanam Shahani, Trade Commissioner for the Infrastructure sector in the UAE, says that “there is a lot happening in this market and that new, innovative, sustainable and high-performance solutions and technologies are in demand.”

The Expo 2020 Dubai Procurement Portal, which enables users to access open and awarded tenders, has been designed as a primary tool to keep businesses up to date on opportunities and ways to participate. Canadian companies are invited to register for the portal and to find out more about Expo 2020 Dubai.
