#HOTCS: Eva Ng, Bandar Seri Begawan
“Most Canadians don’t know much about Brunei – some may not have even heard of it. It’s the smallest market in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, with a population of about 420,000 people. Brunei can be the perfect launchpad for companies looking to enter Asia by testing out the waters in a politically stable, slow and steady, and quiet environment.
In addition to creating awareness of the options for Canadian businesses in Brunei, I work very closely with other Trade Commissioners in the ASEAN region. Let’s say I’m at a trade show in Singapore, I will not only refer Canadian companies to my team, but I will also suggest they consider expanding to Cambodia or Malaysia for example, depending on the market for their product, the industry environment, etc. We don’t work in isolation. The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service is a strong team, connected across the world, that leverages its connections to best serve Canadian exporters.”
